A special initiative to help save Rockwood Music Hall, the iconic independent New York City musical institution which is in danger of closing their doors (http://preserverockwood.com), was announced today.
The #PreserveRockwood benefit concert series will launch on June 30 and will be an opportunity to see some of your favorite artists and bands perform in a once in a lifetime, intimate setting, while helping save the venue. 100% of the proceeds from the shows will be donated to Rockwood to help continue a space for independent and emerging artists to perform. Artists initially joining the series include Sara Bareilles (June 30), Chris Thile and Michael Daves (July 1), Amy Helm (July 6), Isabel Hagen (July 10), Ingrid Michaelson (July 20), Elle King (July 31), The Lone Bellow (August 10), and more.
A cultural touchstone of the independent music scene in New York since 2005, Rockwood has provided a launching pad for some of today’s most successful and critically acclaimed musicians, such as Lady Gaga, Jon Batiste, Gary Clark Jr., Lewis Capaldi and more. Sting has performed at the venue several times, most recently jumping on stage with The Last Bandoleros in 2016 to perform "Next To You", which was recorded and included on the deluxe version of his album, 57th & 9th.
Like many small, independent music venues across the country, Rockwood is struggling to stay open. Without the support of artists, the music community and fans of music, Rockwood is in danger of permanently closing, shutting off a vital place for independent and up-and-coming musicians to develop their artistry and give fans the opportunity to discover new music in a live setting.
